How To Convert Shoe Sizemaster-log
International travellers may have a difficult time purchasing shoes in another country because shoe sizing systems are not the same worldwide. In addition, some countries such as the United States and Japan have different sizing scales for men and women. Simple addition or subtraction estimates the proper shoe size in another system, but trying the shoes on is the best way to size shoes anywhere.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
United States Sizes
Subtract 1.5 from a woman’s United States shoe size to convert it to the equivalent shoe size in men’s shoes. For example, a woman who wears a size 8.5 shoe subtracts 1.5 to find that she should wear a size 7 if she is shopping in the men’s department.
Add 1.5 to a man’s shoe size to find the equivalent size in the women’s department. A man who wears size 8 shoes would need a woman’s size 9.5 shoe.
Try the shoes on if possible because sizing varies from one brand to another. Sometimes adding or subtracting 1 or 2 sizes may be a more accurate fit than adding or subtracting 1.5.
Subtract one half size to convert a U.S. men’s shoe size to United Kingdom and Australia shoe sizes.
Subtract one full size to convert the U.S. men’s shoe size to Mexico’s sizing.
Add 18 to convert to Japanese men’s shoe sizes. Add 19 for Japanese women’s shoe sizes.
Add 32.5 to men’s sizes 7.5 or smaller or 33 for men’s sizes 8 and larger to convert to shoe sizes in Germany, Denmark and Greece.
Add 31.5 to a men’s shoe size of 7.5 or smaller to convert to sizing in Italy and Spain. For size 8 shoes, add 32. Add 32.5 for U.S. men’s sizes 8.5 to 10.5. Add 33 for sizes 11 and over.
